Mae yna hefyd ffilmiau byr gan eraill sydd â diddordeb yn y mater hwn sy'n ehangu. What is Dementia?

Dementia is an umbrella term for a group of brain diseases whose symptoms include loss of cognitive functioning (thinking, remembering, and reasoning) to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life and activities. (NIA, 2021)
Why is Dementia important?

Dementia affects us all.

· One in every 14 people who are aged 65 and over, has dementia (NHS, 2020).
· One in every 6 people who are aged 80 and over, has dementia (NHS, 2020).
· Ischemic heart disease has been replaced by dementia as the leading cause of death in females between 2011 to 2015 (accounted for 15.3% of all female deaths)) (PHE, 2017).

Dementia is a major public health issue in Wales. Approximately 42,000 people in Wales have dementia. Dementia is everybody’s responsibility.
The specific symptoms that someone with dementia experiences will depend on the parts of the brain that are damaged and the disease that is causing the dementia. The progression, severity of the illness is unique to an individual.
